My husband is the youth pastor at Lihue Missionary Church and we are raising three little world changers, Noakea, Banyan, and Avenlea Wren. Eastern North Carolina Photographer – Newborns – Charlotte

Disclaimer: Big photography confession to follow…….Ok, so here goes……newborn sessions are my least favorite type of session.  I know, I know…..it’s not that I don’t love babies, because anyone who knows me well will tell you that I LOOOOOOVE babies.  Like, really really really LOVE them.  I would have a perpetual newborn if I could.  The lack of sleep be darned, there is nothing on Earth that makes me feel like i’m getting a glimpse of God than when I am breathing in that incredible newborn scent.  As a photographer, however, newborns are definitely my challenge.  I feel pressure to get them to sleep, to pose them perfectly, ect., ect…..I partially blame Pinterest for this.  Recently, though, I have been approaching my newborn sessions differently and it’s made a world of difference.  Instead of trying to do the latest “in” pose or curling them into some fancy prop, I have been doing my newborn sessions with a more “documentary” feel; you know, parent interaction, baby in their nursery, that kind of thing.

This session with sweet Madame Charlotte was such an encouragement and breath of fresh air when it comes to newborns.  Granted, she has the most laid back and chill parents ever, which makes all the difference in the world.  She was just a dream to work with, though.  No crying, to stress, just sweet sleepy goodness and calm and peaceful waking hours.  We started out shooting in her soothing nursery and than went across the hall to mommy and daddy’s room for some family cuddles in the big bed.  Her adoring big sister Isabel was in on all the action and a great assistant to have at hand.

After this session, I am actually looking forward to shooting more newborns.  I think that having a more laid back approach suits me well and I have some fun visions for future newborns.  BIG thanks to the Clark family for their support of my little business and for helping me break out of the newborn session funk!

sheenamariebean - I know! She was looking around and taking everything in. Sometimes a waking baby makes for a tough session, but she was so content either way.
